XL Nocturne Acrylic Knife
By: Chained Desires October 14 2026
I had a feeling the Witchlight might have been small, so I bought an XL model for comparison. Of the five options I believe were available at the time (six, if I'm remembering the missing one correctly), the Nocturne's shape caught my attention most. With its long red blade and vampire-looking details, it certainly looked promising, but would the larger size deliver the experience I was after?
If you're wondering why the Chaotic Kink reviews are coming out faster than my standard insertable product reviews, it's simple. All three blades are external stimulation devices, so I was able to test them simultaneously rather than working through them one at a time.

A little about the company
Chaotic Kink got its start in late 2018, growing out of the combined talents of Spectre and Chaotic Eva. Spectre came into the partnership with a background in robotics and a long history of making his own toys, bringing the engineering and mechanical side of things to the workshop. Eva brought her background in fine arts and commercial design, along with her leatherworking and experience working with materials such as reclaimed wood and resin. Put those two together and you get a workshop where the toys apparently aren't allowed to be satisfied with looking ordinary.
The pair originally started making toys for their local community, then moved from Orange County, California, to Brooklyn in 2019. From there, Chaotic Kink expanded its selection and reach while continuing to develop its own designs and manufacturing work. Today, the business also offers parts and materials for DIYers, collaborates with other makers, takes on custom and wholesale work, and teaches events at local venues.
Design is clearly a big part of the Chaotic Kink approach. The brand leans toward unusual shapes, coordinated sets, reclaimed and mixed materials, and designs that aren't trying to blend into the sea of mass-produced BDSM gear. Their own design philosophy essentially says that traditionalism can go sit in the corner while they experiment with something more interesting. They also state that their artwork is created without AI.
Chaotic Kink has been part of the wider kink community for a number of years. Their public history includes appearances at NYC-area kink events, collaborations with other adult makers and businesses, and a feature on the Alternative Play podcast in December 2020, where the company was discussed in the context of artistic and inventive BDSM toy making.
A Safety Disclaimer About Edge play
One of the things that makes these props particularly interesting is the material. Instead of using actual steel blades, Chaotic Kink precision laser-cuts its acrylic knives. The cutting process leaves a small tactile burr along the edge, giving the blades a scratchy sensation without creating a sharpened steel cutting edge.
That doesn't make them risk-free, particularly when you're dealing with pointed sections or pressure. Acrylic can break, and a prop without a sharpened metal edge can still cause injury. It changes the risks involved, but it doesn't eliminate them.
Edge play carries inherent risks. Please play within your comfort level. Use of this item is at your own discretion and risk. Edge play itself is built around communication, consent, and control. You need to understand what you're doing, know your partner's boundaries, establish a safe word or another clear stop signal, and understand exactly what the prop you're using can and cannot do.
Remember, edge play is only fun when everyone involved gets to walk away safely. Know your equipment, know your anatomy, and don't let the excitement of trying something new override basic safety.
Delivery
The package from Chaotic Kink arrived in a plain white shipping box, keeping everything nice and discreet. Inside, the knives were wrapped in perforated shipping paper. The first things out were some contact cards. The first was a business card, followed by a couple of thank-you cards containing safety, cleaning, and usage information.
Next came the knives themselves, each wrapped in black tissue paper.
First out was the Extra Large Nocturne. It's roughly the size of one of my hunting knives, although a fraction of the weight.
Second out of the box was the Witchlight. This one is around the size of a standard pocket knife. Compared with the Extra Large Nocturne, it's considerably more compact.
Lastly, we have the Nocturne Electro from their Electro Knives collection. Unlike the other knives, this one is intended to be used with a neon wand and Power Tripper attachment, allowing the knife to give off an extra bit of bite during use. Because apparently, pulling out a knife in the bedroom didn't have enough shock factor. Like the Witchlight, this blade is about the size of a pocket knife.

Measurements
The XL Nocturne measures eleven and a half inches overall, with a seven-inch blade. From edge to spine, the blade measures 32.82 mm at its widest point, 28.13 mm through the middle, 32.62 mm at the upper wide section, and 26.69 mm at the dip below the accent point. The edge thickness is 2.78 mm.
The blade has a long, angular shape, with a broad upper section that tapers into the main body. It's a much more vampiric design than your average knife, and the transparent red acrylic only adds to that look.
The blade features an engraved design that looks futuristic to me, with dark geometric detailing running down the centre. Combined with the red blade and black handle, it's giving me serious Blade vibes. If you don't get the reference, just ask Deacon Frost. 😉
The handle is made from black resin, with red paint highlighting its details. Both handle plates feature an engraved oval, with additional detailing around the accent hole at the base. Silver-coloured screws hold the handle together, and the entire knife has a glossy finish.
Materials and Maintenance

The XL Nocturne features a transparent red acrylic blade paired with a black resin handle. Both have a glossy finish, with red-painted details on the handle complementing the blade's colour.
As with other acrylic knives, this isn't an impact toy. Avoid using it as a paddle or slapper, and don't drop or bend the blade, as the acrylic can break.
For cleaning, the care instructions recommend a mild disinfectant or standard window cleaner, while advising against isopropyl alcohol. I found that window cleaner on a paper towel worked well, removing residue with a quick wipe and leaving the glossy surface looking clean again.
The included card also has a QR code leading to replacement blades on the company's website, which is worth keeping around if you ever need to look into a replacement.
Testing and Performance
Ease of Use: 4/5
The XL Nocturne is comfortable to hold, and the larger handle feels much more appropriate for a knife of this size. The extra length and overall profile make it feel more substantial to wield, at least in terms of how it sits in my hand.
The weight is where things get a little odd. Despite having the profile of a hunting knife, the XL Nocturne weighs about as much as a pocket knife. I expected something heavier, so there's a learning curve while getting used to how it moves. It isn't difficult to handle, but the weight doesn't match what my brain expects when I'm holding something this size.
I could see this being rectified by adding weights inside the two handle plates. As it stands, the XL Nocturne is comfortable to hold, but getting used to its lightweight feel takes some adjustment.
Sensory Quality: 3/5
Dragging the main edge across the skin doesn't produce much sensation. There's a very slight, almost serrated feeling, but there's no real sharpness or pinching from the main edge during my testing.
The accent points are a different story. They do a good job of catching the skin and creating a slight pinch when dragged across it. Pressing the tip against the skin produces a similar sensation. Neither felt uncomfortable during my testing, but there is enough feedback to make those areas more noticeable than the main edge.
Just as with the Witchlight, dragging the thinnest edge across the skin gives significantly more bite. The difference between that edge and the broader sections is very noticeable, especially when you're paying attention to how much contact the blade makes with the skin.
For a prop designed around edge play, those differences matter. The XL Nocturne gives me a few distinct sensations to work with, but the main edge remains relatively mild. If you're expecting the feeling of a dull steel blade, this acrylic alternative isn't going to replicate it exactly, but it has its merits.
Overall Construction: 4/5
There's nothing wrong with the XL Nocturne's construction. The handle is securely assembled, the finish is consistent, and I didn't notice any issues with the materials or detailing. It looks well made, and the engraved design works nicely with the red and black aesthetic.
Where the design falls short for me is the weight. A knife with an eleven-and-a-half-inch profile shouldn't feel quite so light when you're expecting something closer to a hunting knife. I understand that acrylic and resin weigh less than steel, but that's precisely why I think the design could have benefited from some additional weight in the handle. The materials themselves aren't the problem; the lack of weight makes the finished product feel less realistic than its appearance suggests.
Ease of Cleaning: 5/5
Cleaning the XL Nocturne is as simple as simple gets. A quick wipe with window cleaner and a paper towel was enough to clean it up, and the glossy surface was easy to maintain.
There wasn't anything particularly awkward about cleaning the handle or the blade, so this was a straightforward part of testing. Just remember to avoid isopropyl alcohol and stick to the recommended cleaning products.

final Thoughts
The XL Nocturne has the larger profile I was after, and the vampiric styling gives it a much stronger intimidation factor. The red transparent blade, dark engraving, and black handle all work together, while the handle itself feels comfortable and appropriately sized.
My biggest gripe is the weight. It feels closer to a pocket knife than something with a hunting-knife-sized profile, and that disconnect takes away from the experience. This is an aspect of the design I think could have been handled better. I'd seriously consider whether it's possible to add weights inside the handle plates to give the knife a more convincing feel when wielded.
The sensations are fairly mild along the main edge, but the accent points and tip provide a slight pinch, while the thinner edge gives more bite. Ultimately, the XL Nocturne gets the look and size right for my tastes, but the lightweight feel keeps it from feeling as realistic as I'd like. It's a well-constructed prop with an appealing design, but I think a little more consideration given to its weight would have made it a more satisfying product overall.
That all being said the Chaotic Kink XL Nocturne scored 16/20 giving it a solid 8/10.

I am often asked what lube I use for my testing. Honestly, with the amount of monsters, beasts, and fantasy anatomy I put through their paces, I need something that can keep up with me, and Swisok Cum Lubricant has become one of my go-to essentials. It’s thick, creamy, and gives that realistic feel that just makes everything slide into place the way it should.
It’s water-based, body safe, and the pump applicator makes using it stupidly easy, even when you’re already in the middle of wrangling something big. The texture is slick without turning watery and creamy without getting gummy, which is exactly what I need when I’m pushing my limits or breaking in a Lovecraftian horror.
It also comes in two color options. Tied energy is clear blue, cute and fun. My favorite is the realistic cum version, a thick white that adds a visual kick to playtime and just looks right with fantasy toys.
