Getting toys across the border has been a bit of a circus lately, so I figured it was finally time to start dusting off some of my older reviews and giving them a proper home here. My old Blogger page has been dead for years, and while I’ve had this shiny new site running for over a year now, the combination of endless commissions and a mountain of toys to test has kept those early write-ups stranded in limbo. No more. The classics are clawing their way back into the spotlight.
And what better way to kick things off than with the Lovense Hush. Specifically, the 1.5 inch diameter model from the original Series 1 line. Back when I first dipped my tail into reviewing toys, the Hush was one of the very first I got my paws on. At the time I didn’t realize just how much of a conversation starter it would be or how often it would come up when people asked me about app-controlled plugs.
I picked mine up in 2020, when my partner lived in another country, and it completely changed how I thought about toys. The Hush wasn’t just buzzing away quietly in my collection, it was a lifeline. Through the app, she could take control from miles away, catch me off guard with teasing at the worst (or best) moments, and make the distance feel a little less heavy. It was equal parts thrilling, awkward, and downright mischievous, and it set the bar for what app-connected play could actually mean.
So before I dive into the newer, shinier Lovense releases that have piled up since then, it only feels right to circle back to where it all began. The Hush OG may be hard to find now, but it still earns its place in the history of my collection, and in the story of how I started taking this whole reviewing gig a lot more seriously.
A Little About The Company
Lovense has been prowling the tech-meets-pleasure jungle since 2010, and in that time, they’ve clawed out a name as one of the biggest innovators in the industry. Their whole thing is merging intimacy with technology, creating toys that can connect across the room or across the planet. The idea is simple but powerful: distance doesn’t have to mean disconnected.
From their first app-connected toys to the sprawling lineup they have now, Lovense built its reputation on being the brand that makes “long-distance” feel a lot less long. Their catalog has exploded over the years, covering everything from plugs and strokers to toys that sync with music, games, and cam sites. At this point, if it buzzes, throbs, or reacts to a beat, chances are Lovense has figured out a way to make it happen.
The industry has noticed too. Lovense has walked away with some shiny hardware over the years, including being named International Pleasure Products Company of the Year at the 2022 XBIZ Awards. Their toys have snagged nods from AVN, AskMen, and more, with the Lush line in particular racking up recognition as one of the best app-controlled vibes around. Basically, they’ve got the trophies to back up their reputation as leaders in connected play.
So when you hear the name Lovense, think of a company that turned teledildonics from a niche experiment into a full-blown movement. They’ve kept their paws firmly on the pulse of both technology and pleasure, and their legacy so far shows no signs of slowing down.
Delivery
Since the Hush was one of my very first reviews, I’ll admit I was young, dumb, and full of… well, let’s just say I hadn’t figured out the finer points of reviewing yet. I didn’t even think to include an unboxing section back then. So, this is me correcting that rookie mistake.
I originally ordered the Hush off Amazon, and it arrived tucked away in a totally nondescript brown box. Nothing flashy, nothing suspicious, just discreet packaging that doesn’t scream “butt plug” to the delivery driver. Always appreciated.
The actual product box is clean and minimal, mostly white with the Hush name in bold letters off to the side. Lovense’s logo sits underneath in shiny silver, politely letting the toy itself take center stage. The image on the front is true to size, which is either helpful or intimidating depending on your perspective. Flip the box around and you’ll find a neat breakdown of the key features, size details on the side, app compatibility, a note about long-term wear, and the usual fine print for patents and trademarks.
Inside, everything is tightly secured in a fitted foam insert, keeping the plug snug and protected. Beneath it, there’s a small box containing the 2.5 mm DC charging cable. The cable box doubles as a display showcasing the silver Lovense logo under the hush if you’re the kind of person who likes to show off their toys; It acts like an elegant display. The instruction booklet and associated paperwork are tucked under the foam, easy to miss if you’re too eager to get straight to the good part.
Editor's Note: No matter where you order your toys from, it's always a good idea to clean them before use. This ensures that any release agents or other potentially harmful materials are removed. Remember, a clean toy means healthy, safe fun!
Measurements
The Lovense Hush 1.5 may be the smaller option in the lineup, but “small” is relative here. It measures just under five inches in total length, with about three and three-quarters inches insertable. The tapered tip starts slim at a 2.5-inch circumference and gradually builds to a 4.75-inch girth at its widest point. It’s a comfortable middle ground that works well for longer wear and everyday movement.
The base stands out with its unique design: a narrow flare that spreads in two directions, giving it a secure hold without being bulky. Along the stem runs a subtle spiral groove, about a millimeter deep, meant to catch and hold onto lube while adding a bit of texture.
Controls are simple, a single power button rests at the bottom of the base, and a discreet silicone-sealed charging port on the side connects to the 2.5 mm DC cable.
Materials And Maintenance

The Lovense Hush is wrapped head to toe in body-safe silicone, giving it that smooth, matte finish most of us have come to expect from a premium toy. It’s fully waterproof with an IPX7 rating, which means it can handle being dunked about a meter deep for up to half an hour without complaint. Bath, shower, hot tub, it’s not afraid of a little water.
Silicone also makes cleaning pretty straightforward. A quick wash with unscented dish soap and warm water does the trick. Just pat it dry afterward and stash it somewhere lint-free so it doesn’t turn into a fuzzy mess. And one golden rule if you want your plug to live a long, happy life: stick with water-based lube. Silicone on silicone is a one-way ticket to a ruined surface.
Vibration
Lovense didn’t skimp when they built the motor for the first Hush. They gave it a chunkier counterweight, which meant the plug could rumble harder and with more variety than most of its peers at the time. Right on the toy itself, you’ve got three basic levels to pick from with the base button: low, medium, and high. Simple, reliable, and easy to flip through without needing your phone.
On top of that, the Hush 1 brought in something pretty neat for its day. You can actually load up to nine of your own custom patterns directly onto the plug, along with setting the ceiling for how strong that top vibration goes. That means you’re not stuck with the factory presets; you can tailor the toy to your own rhythms and take them with you, no app required.
Of course, the presets are still there if you want them. Out of the box, you get four built-in patterns: Pulse, Wave, Fireworks, and Earthquake. Each one has its own little personality, whether you’re into steady taps, rolling swells, or the chaotic “shake the couch cushions” kind of vibe.
And if you do pair up with the Lovense Remote app, that’s when the leash really comes off. You can adjust intensity on a sliding scale, draw out custom patterns, sync to your playlist, or even let the mic pick up sounds to drive the toy. It’s a lot of versatility wrapped up in one plug, and at the time, it felt like the future of interactive play.

The Lovense App
For the sake of simplicity and clarity, I’ve chosen to review the Lovense app separately from the products themselves. By doing this, I can ensure that the product reviews remain focused and concise, allowing readers to get straight to the information they need about the product's performance. This approach also makes it much easier to update and maintain the app review as new features, improvements, or changes are introduced, without needing to revise individual product reviews.
Charging

Tucked away on the side of the Hush’s base is a little silicone-sealed port. Pop the 2.5mm pin of the USB charging cable in there, and you’re good to go. It’s discreet, it keeps things waterproof, and it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb.
The USB-compatible cord makes charging straightforward, whether you’re using a wall adapter, power bank, laptop, or any USB port. This versatility ensures you can recharge your Hush wherever you are, without fuss.
Powered by a built-in lithium-ion battery, a full charge takes about an hour and a half. That’ll net you around four hours of continuous use, or, if you’re more the “toy sits in a drawer until summoned” type, up to one hundred and twenty hours of standby. So yeah, whether it’s constant play or occasional mischief, it’s not going to flake on you mid-session.
Unique Feature
The Hush doesn’t just go with a smooth neck like most plugs. Instead, Lovense added a spiral texture that works like shallow grooves. The idea here is pretty straightforward: those ridges help trap lube close to the sphincter rather than letting it slide away too quickly.
It’s not something you see on many plugs, and it makes the Hush stand out. The design was marketed as a way to make removal easier after extended wear, so while it’s not exactly a game-changing feature, it’s an interesting detail worth noting when looking at how the Hush was built.
Testing and Performance
product design 4/5
The Hush OG clocks in at one and a half inches in diameter, which is smack at the upper end of what people call “medium.” That size gives it a little extra presence without tipping into large territory. The t-bar and anchor base design is one of its better traits, making sure the plug doesn’t wander once it’s in place. The taper from stem to bulb also feels intentional, with just the right balance of width to hold everything steady until you’re ready to pull it out.
Where the design stumbles is the infamous spiral lube trap, on paper, it sounds clever, keeping lube close to the body for longer sessions. In practice, though, it’s a thin, firm ridge that can snag on the way in and feel pinchy on the way out. This has been a common complaint since its 2017 debut, and enough people disliked it that Lovense quietly dropped the feature in the Series 2 update back in 2022.
easy to use 3/5
Insertion is usually straightforward, but the ridge can cause an abrupt pause if you are stingy with lube. Once it clears, the plug seats itself without fuss and stays where it should. The only exception is when you crank the power all the way up. On max, the vibrations can relax the muscles so much that the plug may try to slide out if you are not clothed or paying attention.
Connectivity is another mixed bag. When bare, the Bluetooth link is solid and responsive, which makes sense since there is nothing in the way. The moment you add clothing, signal strength drops sharply. More than two layers and the range shrinks to almost nothing, and tucking can block the connection outright. For a toy designed to be worn, that limitation stands out.
sensory quality 4/5
The motor is a beast, with a low rumble that spreads out across the whole pelvic region and higher settings that zero in like a spotlight on the prostate. At its peak, the Hush rivals rabbit vibrators for sheer strength, which is impressive for a plug. That raw power makes the vibration patterns even better, since the sudden switches and pulses catch you off guard in ways that keep things interesting.
The lube trap does at least serve part of its purpose. During longer sessions, it holds onto enough slickness to delay the usual drying out that happens with plugs. That said, the benefit comes at the cost of comfort, especially when you’re starting or wrapping up. Over time, some users adapt to it, but it remains the most divisive part of the toy’s design.
easy to clean 5/5
One of the easiest wins for the Hush OG is its cleaning routine. With an IPX7 waterproof rating, it can handle being submerged without any trouble. A quick soak in warm water with a bit of mild soap takes care of the basics. The smooth silicone body rinses clean easily, and drying it off with a towel is all it really needs.
The only detail that might ask for extra attention is the spiral ridge. If you want to be thorough, a soft toothbrush does the trick to scrub around the grooves without damaging the silicone. Otherwise, it’s as low effort as cleaning gets.
noise level 3/5
Outside the body, the Hush OG can reach about 68dB at maximum, which is in the same ballpark as a loud conversation. Once inside, that drops to around 48dB, making it less obvious but not exactly discreet in a silent room. In places like libraries or other very quiet environments, it is still noticeable.
The situation changes completely in busier areas. In a car with the radio off, it is faintly audible. In shops, city streets, or other noisy spaces, the sound blends into the background and becomes unnoticeable. The higher the setting, the more the tone shifts into higher pitches, which can make it sound louder even if the numbers don’t spike as much.

Final Thoughts
Looking back, the Hush OG feels like one of those toys that was both ahead of its time and a little rough around the edges. On one paw, it gave me my first real taste of app-controlled play, and I’ll always have a soft spot for the sheer chaos it added to a long-distance relationship. On the other, that spiral lube trap has been gnawing at its reputation since day one, and I can’t really argue with the people who called it uncomfortable. It’s the kind of design choice that sounds clever in a boardroom but doesn’t hold up when you’re the one doing the squirming.
What saves it from being forgotten in the toy graveyard is the motor and the app connection. For its time, it was wild to have that much power in a plug and the ability to hand the reins to someone miles away. The patterns, the surprise factor, and the reliability of the base design meant it actually saw regular use in my rotation, even after the novelty wore off. It wasn’t just another plug, it was a plug with a personality.
I’ll admit, it’s not the toy I reach for anymore, especially with newer Lovense models smoothing out the kinks and ditching the lube trap. But I can’t pretend it didn’t shape how I look at connected toys today. It set a standard for power and customization that a lot of plugs are still trying to catch up to.
In short, the Hush OG was flawed but formative. It proved that app-controlled plugs could be more than just a gimmick, and even with its quirks, it carved out a spot in both my collection and my memories. For better or worse, it’s a toy that left its mark, sometimes literally.
With all that in mind, the Lovense Hush Series 1 scored 19/25, giving it a solid 7/10 and set the bar for my expectations for app-controlled devices.

If you would like to purchase a Hush for yourself, I have looked high and low, to no avail, and even though Lovense still has an "add to cart" button on the Hush page for $69usd the button seems to be deactivated as the product won't show up in the cart.
